Ad-hoc networking with low-cost devices: how to do it right
نویسندگان
چکیده
Although simple wireless communication involving nodes built of microcontrollers and radio devices from the low end of the price spectrum is quite popular these days, one seldom hears about serious wireless networks built from such devices. Commercially available nodes for ad-hoc networking (somewhat inappropriately called “motes”) are in fact quite serious computers with tens of megabytes of RAM and rather extravagant resource demands. We show how one can build practical adhoc networks using the smallest and cheapest devices available today. In our networks, such devices are capable of sustaining swarm-intelligent sophisticated routing while offering enough processing power to cater to complex applications involving distributed sensing and monitoring.

Formation of Scatternets with Heterogeneous Bluetooth Devices
Bluetooth is an open specification for short-range wireless communication. It has gradually been extended to meet the demand for personal ad-hoc networking. A Bluetooth ad-hoc network consists of Bluetooth devices interconnected into piconets and piconets interconnected into scatternets. A number of scatternet formation algorithms have been proposed, but none has yet taken into account that Blu...

A wireless ad hoc network typically refers to any set of wireless networks where all devices have equal status on a network and are free to associate with any other wireless ad hoc network devices in their range. As the nature of these networks, they commonly do not have external power supplies, and each node has a limited internal power source. In this paper, we put forward a new routing proto...

Abstract Ad hoc Wireless Networks, are networks formed by a collection of nodes through radio. In wireless networking environment, formidable challenges are presented. One important challenge is connection maintenance mechanism for power consumption. In this paper, a multi-objective optimal design is considered for ad-hoc networks which address the electrical power of nodes effects on cross-l...
متن کاملA Survey on IEEE Standards for Mobile Ad Hoc Networks
Mobile Ad Hoc Networks ( MANETs ) are complex distributed systems that comprise wireless mobile nodes that can freely and dynamically self – organize into arbitrary and temporary “ ad hoc “ network topologies, allowing people and devices to internetwork in areas with no pre – existing communication infrastructure. Adhoc networking concept is not a new one, having been around in various forms fo...
متن کاملSelf-organising Sensor networks
Sensor Networks [6, 5] consist of a large number of low-cost low-power devices, each with sufficient hardware to monitor one or more variables and send and receive the readings for these variables to other devices. Wireless sensor networks are becoming a powerful tool for monitoring a range of diverse situations [3, 8]. While the devices themselves are mostly still in the prototype stage [7] th...
